Brian Warburton was himself a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal Engineers before qualifying to become a Civil Engineer and later a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Since retirement Brian has concentrated on writing stories for children.

The Royal Engineers, affectionately known as The Sappers, are renowned for being brave, resourceful and always on the front line in combat.
