The political system in the Nordic countries has often been referred to as "The Third Way". Democracy in the Nordic countries is based on political compromises between management and labour, and the institutionalisation of a culture of negotiation and mutual adjustment. Beneath this superficial pattern of similarity, there were also major differences in the socio-political contexts and also in the way the various actors defined and legitimated their actions. This book examines the different approaches to democracy in the Nordic countries; it examines how the third way challenged capitalism. The book is divided into three parts: · Industrialisation and democratisation in the Nordic Countries · National models of leadership and authority · Politics and models of organisation and management The contributors are: Haldor Byrkjeflot, Bo Stråth, Francis Sejersted, Marianne Rostgaard, Christine Myrvang, Susanna Fellman, Peer Hull Kristensen, Peter Kjær, Lars Berggren, Niklas Stenlås, Lars Engwall and Sissel Myklebust..
