April 07 For many a decade, many of us had never even seen a hand-knitted sock. Since the boom in knitting these neglected items are soaring in popularity. Perhaps it is the novelty of wearing a knitted sock that makes it so popular, but more likely it is the fact that sock knitting is immensely satisfying yet also a quick project to complete. If you have been put off with nagging doubts about turning heels, knitting in the round and other mystifying sock 'magic', then this is the book to get you converted to the craft. Jeanette Trotman gently takes you through the complexities of sock knitting via some very simple yet effective patterns that will increase your confidence and keep your toes in luxury along the way! This is aimed at the novice sock knitter. The Fair Isle and lacy sock are in fact knitted on just two needles and are seamed so they are completely free of tricky turns and juggling of double pointed needles. As well as the techniques, tools and knitting basics being fully explained, Jeannette also shows you how to knit the 'magic loop' method where you use a long circular needle to knit a narrow tube by clever manoeuvring of the stitches. The book is littered with really handy tips like how to neaten last stitches and some great finishing ideas such as grafting toes together with a waste yarn 'chimney'. The first few of the 20 patterns are simple boots for babies and children that are knitted in parts with a sole and an upper. These are followed by basic tubular socks to introduce knitting on dpns and turning that heel, spiral socks with no tricky heel and pom-pom socks. There are non-socks too with stockings, ballet slippers and legwarmers. Easy Knitted Socks contains a wide variety of techniques and patterns for creating wonderful socks with traditional and no-so-traditional forms of construction. Each pattern is accompanied by colour photos to help you every step of the way.
