He has been and is a member of several learned and professional societies, including the Australasian Society for Phycology and Aquatic Botany, Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society, Australian Speleological Federation, Phycological Society of America, USA, and Royal Microscopical Society, UK. Prof. Cox is also on the editorial board of Micron.
