The trouble was that Bromley were rubbish, and when they spent the following decades far away from the pinnacle of non-league football, the dream seemed unreasonably ambitious. But he never gave up. After all, Bromley had been there before – the proof was in the black-and-white pictures of the club’s 1949 Amateur Cup triumph which hung on the wall of the tea hut at Hayes Lane, and which Dave stared at longingly. Biographical note

Dave Roberts has had over eighty jobs, including security guard, civil servant, and KFC chef who was fired for trying to steal a sample of the secret recipe. After that, he settled for a career in advertising, which was eventually cut short by illness - but not before accidentally winning a Silver Lion at Cannes.

His first book, e-luv: an internet romance came out in 2006 and was followed by The Bromley Boys (which was recently made into a film) two years later.

In 2011, his third book 32 Programmes was published and was shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year. His fifth book, Home and Away, came out in August 2016 and tells the story of coming back to the UK after 35 years and finding that everything has changed.
