This book provides fresh insights on organizational change and post-merger integration processes in the Scandinavian context. Drawing on a three-year research project, the authors link current theory with experiences from the merger between Statoil and Hydro s oil and gas activities. They argue that announcing the deal as a merger of equals has created expectations about the integration process. The researchers analyze how the integration process played out in this context of balance and equality, amplified by the Scandinavian focus on democracy in the workplace. The book is organized into five themes: change management, union participation and involvement, designing new organizational structures that secure knowledge sharing, monitoring occupational health and safety, and creating a new corporate identity. Editors: Helene Loe Colman, Inger G. Stensaker and Jorunn Elise Tharaldsen Contributors: Melanie Bryant, Mona Bråten, Eivind Falkum, Leif Jarle Gressgård, Birgitte Grøgaard, Kåre Hansen, Knud Knudsen, Torstein Nesheim, Sturle Næss and Karen M. Olsen
