Biographical note

Günter Grass, born in Danzig, Germany in 1927, is one of Germany's most celebrated writers. A man of remarkable versatility: novelist, poet, playwright, essayist and graphic artist, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1999. He died in 2015. Michael Henry Heim was a professor of Slavic languages and literatures and comparative literature at UCLA.
