Analysis is based on research undertaken in Africa, Asia, South America and Eastern and Southern Europe, and is centred around four key issues: the efficiency of SEEs, their relation to market competition, the development of clusters and technological upgrading.

Biographical note

HOMI KATRAK is Visiting Professor in Economics at the University of Surrey. He has also acted as a consultant to the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, London. His research areas are Development Economics and Industrial Economics, and his studies on Indian industries have been published in leading international academic journals.

ROGER STRANGE is Senior Lecturer in Economics and formerly Head of the Management Centre, at King's College London. He has published widely on Europe-Asia economic relations.
