This book is a well presented, comprehensive textbook on group counseling practices, ethics, techniques, and theoretical application. This is an effective group counseling textbook that breaks down group counseling from the crucial components of leadership, ethics, stages, skills, and techniques and then enhances it with application to different populations and integration of group counseling theories. This is an excellent textbook that provides both a beginning and advanced understanding of the theories and practices of group counseling. It includes a thorough, yet concise review of the basic group process and practice. It provides a clear understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of key assumptions and techniques of each theory and illustrates their application to groups in action. I recommend this book to all students and professionals with the goal of enhancing their theoretical application to their practice of therapeutic groups. This is the best book on the market for use in teaching a Group Counseling Class. It is very readable and my students enjoy it very much. I find the integrative emphasis to be valuable for future counselors. The sections on school counseling, multicultural issues, and the balance between theory and practice make this a thorough, well-rounded textbook.
