Briefly about SSL/TLS and encryption
SSL (Secure Socket layer) is a protocol for secure data transfer on the web. SSL encrypts all data sent between the browser and the web server. Digital keys ensure that the transmission as a whole arrives unread by other parties at the recipient's end. You can see that there is a secure server in the browser's address bar, https: // instead of http: //. Read more on Wikipedia.
