Biografisk notat
Michael Ryan, a distinguished academic and heritage/museum professional, is an expert on Irish medieval art and archaeology. He is a past President of the Royal Irish Academy and he also served as Director of the Chester Beatty Library. He trained as an archaeologist and was Keeper of Irish Antiquities in the National Museum of Ireland from 1979-1992. He is an Honorary Professor in Art History and Honorary Fellow of Trinity College Dublin.
This is a reprint of the 1987 book of proceedings of the first conference held on the theme in 1985. It is a collection of 26 papers on various aspects of art in Irish archaeology. Contributions are from a stellar line-up of authors including Carl Nordenfalk, Barry Raftery, Etienne Rynne, Michael Herity, James Lang and Peter Harbison. The book is edited by Michael Ryan, a distinguished specialist in early medieval art and archaeology.
