Why a new biographical dictionary of Scottish women? The New Biographical Dictionary of Scottish Women is a revised and enlarged version of the earlier 2006 reference work that further explores and illuminates the varied lives and experiences of Scottish women in history. The wealth of research on Scottish women since the publication of the first edition, and the expansion of online resources and search engines, has meant that a total of 181 new entries on women have been added, with 99 new co-subjects, spanning the early modern to modern period.

- Rebecca Mason, Institute of Historical Research, London, The Innes Review

The Dictionary clothes the lives of Scottish women with vivid detail and rich, sympathetic storytelling. A fascinating read.
