“This is a well-written, highly engaging, and above all, inspiring story. What’s more it’s one that will appeal to an audience broader than just those interested in aviation, not least for the human aspect which permeates the entire book. Production values are high, too, with nice paper and plenty of images from the trip. An all-round good read.”

- Ben Dunnell, Aeroplane

“I greatly enjoyed reading this book for two reasons: it’s an honest account and the adventure is true… Told with candour and rectitude, Solo2Darwin details the myriad trials, terrors and tribulations she [Amanda] faced.”

- David Unwin, Pilot magazine

“The author relates the story with candour, humour and no little emotion which makes this a gripping read. An inspirational read.”

- Andrew Thomas, Aviation News
Solo2Darwin documents one woman’s exhilarating journey across the world. Eschewing the convenience of modern aero technology, Amanda chose to experience the authentic adventure and flew solo in a Tiger Moth just like her idol Amy Johnson.

Biografisk notat
Amanda Harrison is a commercial pilot with a tremendous sense of adventure. Eighteen months after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she started her journey in a Tiger Moth which inspired this book. Inspired by her father’s remote-controlled aircraft models, she started flying lessons at the age of 14 and gained her PPL after attending university. She then trained to be a commercial pilot and flight instructor specialising in vintage aircraft – an incredible feat for someone with severe dyslexia and with only five per cent of commercial pilots being female.
Though the ‘Solo2Darwin’ flight is her most ambitious to date, Amanda has achieved success in many international aviation competitions including the 75th Anniversary Schneider Trophy Race and being a holder of four UK speed records for distance over time.
Amanda believes that ordinary people can do extraordinary things and is a living example of this. She is passionate about inspiring others to keep their dreams alive and live them to the full.
