The atmospheric, gripping new historical detective crime mystery thriller set during World War Two

• Author’s second novel, an upmarket detective thriller set in Berlin at the time of the Second World War.

• Perfect for fans of Philip Kerr’s Berlin Noir/Bernie Gunther series, THE ALICE NETWORK by Kate Quinn or MUNICH WOLF by Rory Clements

• Impeccably researched and author has deeply personal connection to the period: her uncle was sent to a concentration camp during WW2 (this inspired her first novel, ASHES IN THE SNOW).

Superb translation. Antony Shugaar has translated the likes of Primo Levy and Francesco Piccolo, as well as the New York Review of Books, HBO, Netflix and Amazon. Several of his translations are for books awarded Italy’s highest literary award, the Strega Prize.

• Incredibly moving and well-written, profound and humane. This is much more than just a detective novel set at the time of the Second World War. It will stay with readers long after they have finished reading.

Biographical note

ORIANA RAMUNNO (Melfi, 1980) lives in Berlin with her husband and three kids. Following a number of awarded crime novellas and short stories in various magazines, she pursued the writing of her debut thriller Ashes in the Snow inspired by the story of her grandfather, who was detained in the Flossenbürg concentration camp. She dedicated this book to him, a book she describes as “the last act of love in a long journey”.
