Murder and mayhem disrupt a family Christmas by the sea - a perfect thriller to keep you gripped this festive season!

Isla begins to walk over to the harbour, slowly at first and then she's almost running by the time I even begin to move. I keep my eye on the big orange boat but there's no sign of the man. We cross the narrow bridge over the harbour and stop at the edge of the boats.
Isla sets off back along the harbour wall. I stand between two boats, looking, listening. Wondering what I'd do if I found him. Would I confront him?
There's a slight crunch of gravel behind me and I begin to swing my head around.
"Don't turn." A deep voice whispers in my ear.
I don't move. I don't breathe. I can see Isla, but I daren't shout and anyway, what could she do?
I open my mouth but nothing comes out.
"Why are you following me?" the voice asks.
"We weren't," I say, stupidly.
"Don't lie," he says.
Then there's a long pause.
I hear his feet grind on the gravel. "Stay there. Keep looking towards your friend."
Then silence.
I count to a hundred and then turn round.
Nothing. Nothing but the wind and seagulls.

Biographical note

Born in Chobham and raised outside Winchester, Fleur Hitchcock grew up as the youngest child of three. She spent her smallest years reading Tintin and Batman, and searching for King Alfred's treasure. She grew up a little, went away to school near Farnham, studied English in Wales, and, for the next twenty years, sold Applied Art in the city of Bath. When her younger child was seven, she embarked on the Writing for Young People MA at Bath Spa and graduated with a distinction. Now living outside Bath, between parenting and writing, Fleur works with her husband, a toymaker, looks after other people's gardens and tries to grow vegetables.
