The second novel in the Tarzan series opens with the aristocratic ape
man aboard an ocean liner en route from New York to Europe, on which
he has encounters with Russian spies, French counts, and beautiful
women. Tarzan had renounced his right to the woman he loved, and

grown to manhood. It was there he first heard of Opar, the city of
gold, left over from fabled Atlantis, but with altars stained with the
