Berlin. 1940. Hitler's rule casts a menacing shadow over the city. As the distant war moves closer, Criminal Inspector Horst Schenke fights to keep criminals off his patch. But he is walking a tightrope. If his secret relationship with a Jewish woman is exposed, his career will be over. And her fate will be far, far worse.

In Hitler's regime, Berlin's gangsters and pimps are more brazen than ever. When innocent victims are caught in the crossfire between warring gangs, Schenke wants the perpetrators punished. But Nazi party members with absolute power will do anything to protect their sleazy friends. They believe no one is incorruptible. All they need is to find out Schenke's secrets . . .

Will Schenke's relentless pursuit bring the criminals to justice - or is a deadly net closing around him from which it will be impossible to break free?
