Grumbletroll learns the value of sportsmanship in this picture book that teaches young children about fairness, friendship, and coping with frustration when they don't win.

The Grumbletroll is back in the third book of the Grumbletroll series, and he has only one goal: He absolutely wants to win the big soapbox derby race! Luckily, he has come up with something special for his soapbox. During the race, he manages to overtake the field from behind . . . but along the way, he derails his friends. The bird is so frightened that it hits a post. The hedgehog runs into a stone, the mouse's steering wheel breaks, and the rabbit no longer has any brakes!

Grumbletroll has a clear path to cross the finish line first, but will he learn the value of sportsmanship and that winning isn't everything? Hop in the soapbox for this wild ride and find out if he is prepared to use all his coping skills to set aside his anger and come to the aid of his friends so they can all finish the big soapbox derby race together.

The Grumbletroll . . . Wants to Be First! helps children ages 4 to 8 learn coping methods for their own anger and understand how to play fair and what it means to be a gracious winner or loser. The Grumbletroll series offers a playful way of dealing with emotions, providing a lot of space for conversation, role playing, and the reader's own thoughts.

Biografisk notat

Under their aprilkind label, Steffi and Michael Gerharz design and develop stories and stuffed toys for children. They live with their three children in Troisdorf, near Cologne, Germany. They got the idea for the Grumbletroll when their youngest daughter sat across from them at the breakfast table, sulking and grumbling with her arms crossed. Barbara van den Speulhof is a children’s book author and director and producer of radio plays for children. After forays into mechanical engineering and architecture, Stephan Pricken first studied elementary school teaching with a focus on art and ultimately graphic design in Münster, where he now lives and works as a freelance illustrator.
