Meredith Costain grew up on a remote dairy farm in West Gippsland, Victoria. She still lives in Australia where she works as a full-time writer, specialising in fiction and non-fiction children's books. David Antram was born in Brighton, England, in 1958. He studied at Eastbourne College of Art and then worked in advertising for 15 years before becoming a full-time illustrator. He has since illustrated well over 100 titles, mainly for children and young adults, including around 60 in the bestselling 'You Wouldn't Want to Be' series.
You are an 18th-century convict faced with a fate potentially worse than death: to be sent to one of the new English colonies in Australia, where you will face hardship, isolation and great danger at the razor edge of colonial enterprise.
