Dr. Yuyuan Zhao is a Professor at Ningbo University of Technology. He earned his BEng and MSc from Dalian University of Technology, China, and his DPhil in Materials from Oxford University. His academic career includes positions at Dalian University of Technology, CNRS in France, Birmingham University and Liverpool University. He joined Liverpool in 1998, progressing from Lecturer to Professor, and moved to Ningbo University of Technology in 2023. Dr. Zhao pioneered the Sintering and Dissolution Process (SDP) and later invented the Lost Carbonate Sintering (LCS) method for manufacturing porous metals, which led to the founding of Versarien, a successful start-up producing micro-porous copper for thermal management. His contributions to powder metallurgy earned him the Ivor Jenkins Medal (2015), and he is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM). His current research focuses on porous metals and metal matrix syntactic foams.
