I’m often asked where I find my inspiration for painting landscapes. I’m fortunate enough to live in the countryside of Northumberland, in England, where I’m surrounded by beautiful pastoral fields, rolling hills, and mile upon mile of golden sands. For the paintings contained within this deck, I have included the kinds of scenes that I see every day when I am on my travels in the UK and around the rest of the world. My motivation is looking at a landscape or a feature of a landscape and trying to capture it on a piece of paper. I feel I always fall short of achieving what I want, but I find that being out there and making a mark on paper is good for the soul. Use this card deck as inspiration when you paint, whether simply copying an effect or taking a card as a jumping-off point for your own individual art. Keep the cards with the rest of your painting kit and use them as a reference for whatever you are painting. They will be handy for problem-solving, as well as creating full-blown pictures. Hopefully the cards will serve as some form of motivation: all of them are attainable and, hopefully, you will enjoy using them.
