Dobbin's time in Arundel saw the building of a new Chapel due to an increasing congregation and flourishing Sunday-School work with 130 'scholars'. The Lundys were bakers and confectioners, and members of the congregation. As Pastor, Dobbin visited the family during William's illness in a time when child mortality was much more prevalent than today. Christians then did not just want to educate their children but to evangelize them and prepare them for eternity. Published in 1836, Dobbin's 'sketch' of William Lundy is to be read and understood against this background.
