A comprehensive pictorial history of all MG cars that were produced from 1930 up to those in production in 2006 when the Rover group collapsed. This is the 'go-to' reference book if you want to compare your Magnettes, MGAs, Midgets or Maestros!
Providing a nostalgic trip down memory lane for any post-war car enthusiast, the text is generously illustrated with original line drawings, and black & white plus colour period photos. All models are covered including sports derivatives, limited editions, vans, estates and coupes, with a section on motorsport achievements and TV and movie appearances. Contemporary factory advertising slogans are featured throughout. Complementing the historical content, technical specifications, ongoing production changes and build figures are also included for completeness.
Trevor Alder has been driving classic cars for many years and has written and compiled several publications researched from his massive self-indexed magazine archive, including several other titles in Veloce's highly successful A Pictorial History series. A bookshelf-must for anyone interested in a slice of Britain's sporting motoring heritage.

Introduction
Before the MG Car Company was formed in 1928, Morris Garages of Oxford was offering a number of tuned Morris cars, advertising their attributes in the national press. This book chronicles the UK MG car scene from the 1930s to when the Rover group collapsed in 2005. All mainstream models are represented and the book includes references to those models that also became available just for overseas markets.
Throughout the main chapters, in blue tinted boxes, are a variety of the headlines used in contemporary advertising from various sources including some from overseas, particularly the USA. These are certainly not exhaustive (there truly are hundreds for certain models) but I have tried to include every model manufactured where possible. One or two of the adverts would probably not make it past the censors today, but many have been forgotten. Some of them are shown within this volume.
The book is divided into logical chapters, and within these are included specific model histories, key (but not all) production changes, a brief overview of specifications, performance and a whole variety of photographs, many of them period, that hopefully serve as a useful guide. The latest overseas built models are not included.
Thanks to Brown & Gammons MG dealership for its impromptu hospitality (see picture below) and to the many keen owners and enthusiasts I have spoken to at various locations, including many classic car gatherings in Suffolk. The British Motor Museum at Gaydon is certainly worth a visit too, with a number of very interesting exhibits, both cars and trucks, and if you are interested in local Abingdon history, why not visit the very friendly free museum in the centre of town where you will also discover one of the last MGB roadsters built.
Just remember, if you drive an MG … “Your mother wouldn’t like it,” as pointed out in those early 1970s UK advertisements of loud styles, colours and flared trousers!
