Biographical note
DAVID SANSONE is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Classics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has published on topics ranging from Bronze-Age iconography to the poetry of John Milton and the music dramas of Richard Wagner. He specializes in Greek language and literature and is the author of Greek Athletics and the Genesis of Sport (1988), Greek Drama and the Invention of Rhetoric (2012), Ancient Greek Civilization (2016) and Plato: Menexenus (Cambridge, 2020).'The Commentary does not assume any great knowledge of Greek among its readers, and any and all potential grammatical or syntactical problems are handled with admirable clarity.'
