An excellent example of the kind of analysis that is made possible by the work of the LGPN... The courageous reader will find a series of interesting discussions ranging from the grammatical to the political. Charlotte Roueche, Times Literary Supplement [Fraser's] posthumous book on Greek ethnic terminology is the fruit of many years of dedicated research on an exceptionally significant topic. As a mine of information and reflections made by a most erudite Greek scholar, an outstanding guide through the labyrinth of Greek ethnic terminology, it will be indispensable for all classicists, archaeologists, epigraphers, numismatists and ancient historians in general. Marijana Ricl, Klio

This volume is a significant contribution to the study of the ancient Greek vocabulary used to describe the local origins of individuals. It sheds much new light on ancient grammarians, and other ancient writers (many of them 'lost' in the sense that they survive only in quotations in later sources). At the heart of the volume is a study of the sources which lie behind an enigmatic but important treatise, which survives only in epitome: the Ethnika of the grammarian Stephanus of Byzantium. This suppliment to the Lexicon of Greek Personal Names is the final work of its founding editor (d. 2007).
