Geoffrey Keating was a 17th century Roman Catholic priest, poet and historian from County Tipperary. Here, selections from his major work, the ‘History of Ireland’ or ‘Foras Feasa ar Eirinn’, are presented by the late Irish language scholar Osborn Bergin. The original work, completed in 1634, traces the history of Ireland from the earliest times to the invasion of the Normans in the 12th century, using historical poetry, annals and ecclesiastical records. Bergin presents extracts from the romantic stories with an introduction, notes and vocabulary.
