The result of years of accumulated knowledge, this index is an invaluable resource for all those interested in the history of the language sciences.
- Wendy Ayres-Bennett, Professor of French Philology and Linguistics, University of Cambridge,
The history of linguistics is filled with thousands of names, only a few dozen of which are widely known. Among the rest are people whose contributions, large or limited, have each helped shape the understanding of language in their time and since. Koerner’s Universal Index is their monumental wall. Few of the life-dates it contains can be readily found elsewhere, including on the Internet.
