This book offers a guide to tree preservation mechanisms for policy makers and researchers concerned with preserving canopy or boosting green infrastructure on private urban land in Australia. It discusses the available mechanisms in Australia (both direct and indirect) and refers to relevant literature on each mechanism, including research on the effectiveness of each mechanism, as well as addressing applicable case law. Although written from a predominantly legal perspective, this book is designed to assist non-lawyers to better understand the available tree protection mechanisms and how they work (or not) to achieve increased canopy cover, green space or other urban forest improvements on private land.
