The goal of the authors is to preserve the integrity of the book's purpose. That is, help the reader get LabVIEW up, running quickly and easily, and start the reader down the road to becoming an expert programmer. This 3rd edition also includes material that will help a developer prepare for the Certified LabVIEW Developer Exam. LabVIEW 8 is the latest release. It replaces LabVIEW 7 and all its variants. National Instruments develops and evolves LabVIEW so that it is backward compatible. This book not only introduces the beginner to the new features of LabVIEW 8 it also includes the updates for 3 previous releases, 7.1, 7.0 and 6.1. This is significant because all 3 versions are currently in use. Should a user migrate, let's say, from 7.1 to 8.0, the user will not have to buy another book. In addition, in this case, knowing what features are in 8.0 will help the reader determine if he or she would benefit by moving to a new release.
