Before making that very next decision, stop and reflect.
An investing adventure into the vast capital markets “desert” requires more than just a trading platform and gut instincts. Trying to create value through short-term trading tactics is a mismatch proportionate to running a marathon by sprinting consecutive 100 meter segments. It’s exhausting and eventually leads to stumbling results.
Hedge fund manager, J.T. Mason shares his professional investing roadmap deployed successfully in the Oasis Growth Fund, a core North American Growth Fund based at Fieldhouse Capital Management in Vancouver, Canada. It’s difficult enough to know what we don’t know, let alone to learn when and how to capitalize on select investment opportunities strewn across the capital markets landscape. Yet, becoming a more effective investor begins with self-reflection and building awareness.
“If you know neither the enemy nor yourself,
you will succumb in every battle.”

Since the investing journey is life-long, it’s never too late to embrace a new path. With a focus on improving the processes, including oneself, accessing the right tools, and staying close to the path, the results will follow. Truth is that the riches we seek, lie within us.
Every investor starts their capital markets journey believing they can beat the market. Yet, if you’re reading this, you’re likely not happy with the results. That technology offers such easy access into the world’s most competitive arena, is an invitation that deserves a better plan.
Except for the rare few, deploying short-term trading as the primary method of creating wealth places an investor against the odds. Chronic underperformance relative to the professionals, and “Mr. Market”, is irrefutable proof of the “Behavior Gap”. With 70% of trading deployed by efficient, unrelenting algorithms, investors are forever vulnerable. Undisciplined, reactive trades are quickly and ruthlessly exploited. Yet, there are many ways to generate better results more consistently.
The Investing Oasis seeks to level the playing field and improve an investor’s destiny. Progressing pragmatically through 27 chapters and four progressive tiers, a learning journey will be revealed. Readers are invited to embrace, at their own pace, proven investing methodologies, while being introduced to effective tools and behaviors to further refine their investment game. Layered in between will be investing tips, pertinent examples, contrarian tactics and effective psychological techniques that every investor deserves to know. Readers will also be provided complimentary access to web content, including templates, checklists, educational materials, and bonus chapters.
To achieve consistently better results over the long haul requires stepping back to take a more comprehensive and mindful approach. Ultimately, an investor is responsible for forging their own best path forward, but the journey can be made easier and more effective with time at The Investing Oasis.
