The Dutch poet, anthologist and translator Menno Wigman died in 2018 at just fifty-one, several years after being diagnosed with a rare heart condition likely caused by an allergic reaction suffered in his adolescence. This memorial pamphlet is intended as a tribute to the poet and as a companion to Window-Cleaner Sees Paintings, my selection of Wigman's poetry published by Arc in 2016.

A former poet laureate of Amsterdam, he attracts a wide audience for his books and readings. Wigman is also active as a musician and an editor and has translated the work of Rilke, Baudelaire and others into Dutch. He has published five full-length collections, with Slordig met geluk (2016) as the most recent, and has won several major prizes. His poetry has appeared internationally in many magazines and anthologies and there are French and German selections of his work, L'affliction des copyrettes and Im Sommer stinken alle Städte, published in 2010 and 2016 respectively.
