The Victorian era (1837-1901) was a time of great change. London became the biggest city in the world, with a population of five and a half million people by 1880. Many public parks and theatres were opened and new inventions like the telephone, light bulb and automobile changed how people lived. Grand railway stations such as St. Pancras station connected London to the rest of the country.
