Travels in Alaska chronicles John Muir's adventures in that
astonishing and majestic landscape. Muir first journeyed to Alaska in
1879 a mere twelve years after it became American territory. Over
subsequent years he returned many more times drawn to its rivers
glaciers sunsets and northern lights. In lyrical and eloquent prose
Muir documented his expeditions to Alexander Archipelago Wrangell
Island the Stickeen River and various glaciers. He recounts his awe at
the aurora borealis and his experiences amongst native communities.
His portrayal of Alaska's magnificence stands as a tribute to that
unique place and mirrors his reverence for the Sierras. This Warbler
Classics edition includes photographic plates from the book's original
1915 release and a detailed biographical note.
