His multicultural adventure manga Shaman King, which debuted in 1998, became a hit and was adapted into an anime TV series. Takei lists Osamu Tezuka, American comics and robot anime among his many influences.
STAN LEE
As a kid, Stanley Martin Lieber spent a lot of time dreaming up wild adventures. By the time he got to high school, he was putting his imagination to work writing stories at Timely, a publishing company that went on to become the legendary Marvel Comics. Starting with the Fantastic Four, Lee and his partner Jack Kirby created just about every superhero you can think of, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil and Thor. Along the way, he wrote under many pen names, but the one that stuck was Stan Lee.
